Target Audience
The target audience for this community health program is older individuals living in Middletown, New York. After identification of the target audience, the next step should be selection of these population and including them in the program. Selection should be done properly to ensure that the right people are included in the program (Clark, 2015). The criteria that will be used to select the target audience include the following elements. First, the audience should be aged 65 years and above.
This program will target older people because they are most likely affected by heart diseases compared to other populations. Second, the audience should be residing within Middletown, New York. The project will focus on improving the health of people in Middletown, New York, and thus the audience should be from this community.
Another factor that will be included when selecting the target audience is informed consent. People who meet the criteria and willingly give their consent to be part of the team will be selected for the program. The last factor that will be considered is the audience’s willingness to learn. Target audiences who are willing to learn will be given priority. The sampling method that will be used to select the target audience is convenience sampling.
Speak et al. (2018) noted that convenience sampling is one of the easiest sampling methods. In this method, the target audience will be selected based on their willingness and availability to take part in the program. Through this method, I will select only participants who have met the selection criteria and are ready, available, and willing to be part of the program. The weaknesses of this method are that the results of the program are prone to significant bias (Speak et al., 2018).
I will prevent bias by ensuring that those who have volunteered to take part in the program meet the selection criteria. I will also ensure that the target audience is representative of other characteristics, such as sex. The target audience will be reached through the social media platform. A poster will be created and shared in the WhatsApp group and any other social media groups with people from the target community. Social media will be used because it allows us to meet many people faster. The poster will communicate the purpose of the program and where it will occur.
My relationship with the target audience is professional. I am a healthcare professional from this community. Thus, I have the responsibility to promote the community’s health status and ensure that every member of this community is healthy and safe. As part of the healthcare team in this community, I realized that most people, especially older individuals have heart problems. Most of the older adults I diagnosed in the community either have heart diseases or are experiencing some minor heart problem symptoms.
